Do you have an attic that’s just collecting dust? Turn it into something useful for your home! The attic, for many people, is one of the most underused rooms in the house. This can be for many reasons. For some, it’s the lack of accessibility. For others, it’s that they don’t need a large storage space, so it goes unused. Premier Group Contractors wants you to know that you can make your attic a useful part of the home. Here’s how you can renovate your attic into a functional room.
For many people, the attic is inaccessible because it doesn’t have any stairs. These attics are often in the garage or top floor, depending on how many floors your house has. If your garage has no stairs, you might be able to add some. During the renovation process, adjusting the location of the attic entrance can be done fairly easily. This gives us the opportunity to add stairs or a permanent ladder that makes going into the attic easy.
Walls and Floors
The first thing that must be done to renovate your attic into a functional room is adding walls and floors. Attics typically have no flooring, or may have a small area of plywood flooring. This won’t do for a finished space. Our team can put up standard drywall, insulation, and wood flooring. This is really what makes an attic feel more like a regular room in the house.
The next thing that you’ll need to feel at home in your new room is electrical. For one thing, you’re going to want some lighting that’s more than just a bare bulb. Premier Group has electrical specialists on our team and can have your attic room outfitted with lighting and outlets, easy.
If your attic space is attached to one of the outer walls, we may be able to add a window as well. Attics may even have existing windows or vents. In this case, we’ll make changes to them if necessary. After all, we want your attic room to have light and the potential for fresh air, but we don’t want it exposed at all times like it is with a vent or a badly sealed window.
With the potential for a new window comes the potential for a window seat. Adding a window seat to your attic room will give it additional charm and comfort.
Even further, you could potentially have a balcony added to this room. If your attic space opens out onto the roof, implementing a balcony isn’t actually that hard. The supports are already there. All we have to do is reinforce them, build the balcony where it’s desired, and ensure the shingles are sealed properly so as not to leak water into the attic.
Choose A Use
This attic space can be used for just about anything once it’s done being renovated. Use it as an additional bedroom, a higher quality storage space, an office, a reading nook, and so much more.
