It’s not uncommon for people to daydream about their dream house. Some of us even take to designing them for fun. Getting the perfect custom home design and layout – something of a personal heaven – is a feeling that can’t be matched. However, even countless sketches and doodled floorplans can’t be handed to a team of construction workers. However, they can be handed to a design consultation team. If you have a custom home design, let Premier Group Contractors turn it into a finished blueprint. Then, you can really get started on making your dream home a reality.
Gather Your Designs
The first step is gathering your designs. Whether you have them in a folder, or tucked into notebooks throughout your house, you’ll need them in one place. The more detailed information on what you need, the better. Therefore, if you plan to come in for a custom home design consultation, you may even want to take some time to fine tune your ideas.
Know Your Needs
When you come in for consultation, it’s important that you know your needs, or a rough approximation of them. While we can work with less information, having more is always a plus. That’s because, when we make a blueprint, we can’t leave anything out. Therefore, knowing your preferences for the details is a huge help, even if you can’t put them on the blueprint yourself.
These are the features that will help a lot in the blueprinting process:
- A rough-handed floorplan of your own (even if it’s simple).
- Markers for doors or archways.
- Markers for windows.
- Roughly how you want the house to look from the front. A rough drawing of the shape you’re going for will help. This gives us an idea of whether it will be on a raised foundation, how the roof should be built, and so on.
- Where you would like outlets or light fixtures to go.
- Where you would like plumbing fixtures to go (such as sinks, tubs, and toilets).
- Dimensions for fixtures, such as stair width, hallway width, and so on.
If you’re uncertain of any of these things, it can help to use a tape measure around your existing house to compare what you have with what you want. For example, if you want an island, but your current kitchen’s island is too close to the other counters for comfort, check the distance. This will give you a jumping off point for determining a distance that would make you happy.
Come in for Consultation
When you have notes on all of your preferences, a folder of your designs, and the readiness to work together, come on in for your consultation. Whether you schedule before your additional preparation, or after, is completely up to you and how much time you’ll need to refine your ideas.
When you get here, we’ll sit down together, go over your vision, and work out the details together. When we’re sure we understand exactly what you want, we’ll get to work on the official blueprint and let you know when it’s finished. The final product will be something complete, that can be given to a construction crew and turned into a beautiful, architectural reality. Call us now to get started.
